Vegard Bentsen, Engineering Analyst
I graduated from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2007 with a M. Sc. in applied physics. After that I moved back to the area where I grew up in Northern Norway, as I wanted to spend some time there while applying for jobs. It was unlikely that I would stay, as there were few relevant jobs in the region around Rognan. However, I came across an article in the local newspaper about Validus Engineering opening a new office in Rognan. I made a few inquiries and soon found that the hiring process was both short and un-complicated.
The learning curve was quite steep as my physics education wasn’t focused on structural mechanics. My background from numerical physics in combination with experienced and helpful colleagues, made it possible to get up to speed with FEA and specifically ANSYS relatively quickly.
Typical day to day work includes: setting up analyses, evaluating results, improving models or scripts, making presentations, writing reports, reviewing the work of colleagues (QA), estimating time, making task descriptions, and communications with customers. Although most tasks are performed individually, they frequently involve discussions with colleagues often situated at other locations.
